A van with ice cream is the only thing that managed to bring from his native home in Bakhmut

This story is about never giving up, even when it seems like the whole world is against you

Mykola Moroz is an entrepreneur who makes craft ice cream and cheeses. He is originally from Bakhmut, but before the war started in 2014, he worked for six months in Crimea, where he had his own cafeteria. When the Russians occupied Crimea, everything was completely looted.

In Bakhmut, Mykola had his own cafeteria and a food truck with real Italian gelato. During the Nazi invasion, Mykola's entire business literally turned to ashes.

He managed to save only the ice cream truck, so now people can taste real Italian gelato in the town of Hlobyno, Poltava region. This is where Mykola moved to.

Thanks to winning a grant from The course towards Independence, a partnership between the Astarta-Kyiv agricultural holding, the Believe in Yourself Charitable Foundation, the German government - the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Development Bank DEG, Mykola has also taken up cheese-making.

" The course towards Independence has restored my business and created jobs for people," says Mykola.

The talented entrepreneur has plans to supply the delicacies all over Ukraine and to open a gelateria in Poltava region. Mykola actively helps IDP families with food, as he knows from his own experience how difficult it is to be far from home.
